The Denver Broncos have signed offensive tackle Bobby Massie to a one-year, $4 million deal, his agency, AMDG Sports, announced Wednesday.

Massie, 31, would take the spot of Ja'Wuan James, who is out for the season with a ruptured Achilles.

The Chicago Bears declined Massie's option in March and released him after five seasons. Massie started every game he played in with the Bears, though he was limited to eight games last season with a knee injury.

Massie has played in 118 career games (110 starts) with the Arizona Cardinals (2012-15) and Bears. He was a fourth-round pick in the 2012 draft.

James sustained the Achilles injury while working out. James is set to earn $10 million in base salary in 2021. But according to NFL Network, since he was injured while working out away from the team facility, he is at risk of losing a portion or potentially even all of his salary.
